About cropping video
Cropping changes the framing of a video — it throws away the edges of the picture and keeps the part you want. That is different from resizing, which keeps the whole frame and changes its dimensions. Cropping is what you want when a clip was shot wide but needs to be square for a feed, when the subject sits off to one side, or when the source has black bars baked into it.
How to crop a video
- Drag your video onto the page, or click to browse. It stays on your device.
- Drag the corners of the crop box to frame the shot, or pick an aspect-ratio preset to lock the shape.
- If the source has black bars, click Remove black bars to snap to the real picture.
- Click Crop & Export, check the result, then download it.
Cropping for social platforms
- 9:16 — TikTok, Reels, YouTube Shorts. Full-screen vertical.
- 4:5 — the tallest shape an Instagram feed post allows.
- 1:1 — square, safe almost everywhere.
- 16:9 — standard widescreen for YouTube and most players.
Why SnipSound
- 100% browser-based. Other video croppers upload your video to a server. We don't — it stays on your device.
- No file size limit. Most online tools cap at 100–500 MB. The only limit here is your device's memory.
- No sign-up, no watermarks.
- Automatic black-bar detection, which most online croppers make you eyeball by hand.
