Are the voices free and natural-sounding?

Yes. Every voice is a natural neural AI voice (Kokoro or Piper), free and unlimited, with no watermark. They run on your device, so your text never leaves your device. Some voices ask you to credit their training dataset when you publish; the tool shows the exact line under the voice.

Can I preview a voice before using it?

Yes — press Preview on any voice above to hear it right here, then Use voice to open the text-to-speech tool with that voice preselected, type your text and download MP3 or WAV.

How are the voice scores worked out?

Each voice is scored on its own preview clip — the one you hear when you press Preview. Accuracy is measured: the clip is transcribed by speech recognition and compared with the text it was meant to say. Naturalness is rated out of 10 by two AI listeners from different companies, Google Gemini and OpenAI. The score out of 10 combines the two. It is a guide to how each voice sounds, not a customer review.

What does the speed bar show?

How fast each voice talks in its preview, in words per minute — or characters per minute for Chinese and Japanese, which don't put spaces between words. It counts the whole spoken stretch, pauses included. Rates are only comparable within a language, so each bar shows where a voice sits among the others in its language. You can make any voice faster or slower with the speed control in the tool.
