Free AI text-to-speech & voice generator — no sign-up, no software to download
SnipSound's free text to speech tool turns any writing into natural, human-sounding audio using a real AI voice generator — with no account, no paywall, and no watermark. There's no app to install: the voice model downloads once in your browser, then your text is converted to speech locally and files never leave your device. Type or paste your script, pick from 60 voices across 17 languages — English, Spanish, French, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese, German, Dutch, Swedish, Ukrainian and more — press generate, restyle it with a free voice changer effect, add word-perfect captions, and download the result as MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, AAC or M4A.
What is AI text-to-speech?
AI text-to-speech (TTS) converts written words into natural, spoken audio — turning your text to voice, or text to audio you can download — using a neural voice model. Modern models like Kokoro produce human-sounding speech with natural pauses and intonation — a long way from the robotic voices of older screen readers. An AI voice generator like this one lets you pick a voice, paste any text, and get a downloadable audio file in seconds, with no recording equipment.
SnipSound vs. typical AI voice sites
Premium AI-voice apps like ElevenLabs, Murf and Play.ht are excellent — their top voices are more realistic. But their free tiers often require an account and cap how much you can generate. SnipSound is free, private and unlimited in 17 languages (English, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese, German, Dutch, Swedish, Ukrainian and more) with no sign-up. Here's the everyday comparison:
| Feature | SnipSound | Typical AI voice site |
| Account / sign-up | None | Often required |
| Character / length limit | None | Monthly cap on the free tier |
| Privacy | Runs on your device — text never uploaded | Text sent to their servers |
| Voice-changer effects | Yes (robot, chipmunk, 8D, slowed…) | Rare |
| Languages | 8 — English, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese, German, Dutch, Swedish, Icelandic, Ukrainian, Catalan, Czech, Slovenian, Kazakh | Varies |
| Captions & caption video | Word-perfect, built in | Rare |
| Cost | Free, unlimited | Free tier, then paid |
SnipSound already speaks 17 languages for free. If you need ultra-realistic voices or a language it doesn't cover yet, a paid service may suit you better — otherwise, for free, private, no-account, unlimited speech with built-in effects and word-perfect captions, SnipSound is hard to beat.
What makes it different
- Multi-voice scripts. Write dialogue and give each speaker their own voice — assign a different voice per line, then generate the whole conversation. Great for skits, dialogues, language practice and character voiceovers.
- Truly free, no limits. No sign-up, no character cap, no monthly quota, no watermark on your audio.
- Private by design. Your text is processed in your browser and is never uploaded to a server.
- 60 natural AI voices in 17 languages — American and British English (female and male, including a British AI voice option), plus Spanish, French, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Hindi, Chinese and Japanese. Preview any of them instantly before you generate.
- 60 voices, effectively unlimited styles. Restyle any of them with a free voice changer online — Robot, Chipmunk, Deep, Telephone, 8D, Slowed + Reverb, Nightcore, Bass, Shout, Demon, Ghost, Behind Door, Stadium and more — or dial in and save a Custom mix. That's hundreds of distinct voice styles from one free tool, not a fixed list; the effect bakes into your download.
- The page never freezes. Generation runs on a background thread, so you can keep scrolling and working while it voices your text.
What you can use it for
- Voiceover generator for YouTube, TikTok and Reels — write the script, generate the voice-over, and export it as an MP3 to drop into your editor.
- Read text aloud — turn articles, PDFs and notes into speech and listen; a free text-to-speech reader and audio text reader that reads your text out loud. Read text aloud →
- Studying & proofreading — hear your notes or drafts read aloud to catch mistakes and retain more.
- Accessibility — convert articles, emails and documents into clear spoken audio.
- Content & podcasts — generate intros, narration and reads without recording gear.
How to convert text to speech
- Type or paste your text into the box above.
- Tap a voice card to hear a preview, then leave it selected.
- Press Generate Speech — audio starts playing sentence by sentence.
- Optionally tap an effect to restyle the finished voice.
- Choose from six formats — MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, AAC or M4A — and download. The first visit loads the voice model once (88–310 MB depending on your device); after that it's instant.
Frequently asked questions
- Is this text to speech tool really free?
- Yes — there's no account, no character limit, no watermark and no usage cap. The AI voice runs in your browser, so there are no server costs to pass on.
- Do I need an account or sign-up?
- No account, no sign-up, and no email — and no app to install. Just open the page and start.
- Is there a character or length limit?
- No length limit. Long text is generated sentence by sentence, so audio starts playing while the rest is still being created.
- Does my text get uploaded anywhere?
- No. The voice model downloads to your browser once and all speech is generated locally on your device. Your text never leaves your browser.
- How many voices are there?
- 60 natural AI voices across 17 languages — English (American & British, female & male), Spanish, French, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Hindi, Chinese and Japanese. Tap the play card on any voice to preview it instantly.
- How many voices and sounds can I create?
- There are 60 natural AI voices across 17 languages, and because any voice can be restyled with voice-changer effects or a saved custom mix, you can create hundreds of distinct voice styles — far more variety than the voice count alone. All free, in your browser, no watermark.
- Which languages does it support?
- Eight: English, Spanish, French, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese, German, Dutch, Swedish, Ukrainian and more. Pick a language, then type in that language — a native voice reads it exactly as written, with no translation.
- Can I add captions to the speech?
- Yes. Every clip comes with word-perfect captions timed to the audio, and you can export a caption video (MP4) — handy for TikTok, Reels and YouTube voiceovers.
- Can it read text out loud?
- Yes — paste any article, PDF text or notes and it reads them out loud in a natural voice. It works as a free read-aloud app, text-to-speech reader and audio text reader: generate the audio, then listen or download it. Read text aloud →
- Can I download the audio?
- Yes — download in any of six formats with no watermark. Whatever effect you've applied is baked into the file.
- What audio formats can I export?
- Six: MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, AAC and M4A. MP3 is the universal choice for video, podcasts and social; WAV and FLAC are lossless for editing and archiving; AAC and M4A are efficient and ideal for Apple devices; OGG is a free, open format. Pick any from the download menu — all free, no watermark.
- Can I add effects to the voice?
- Yes. After generating, restyle the audio with effects like Slowed + Reverb, Nightcore, 8D, Bass, Shout, Demon, Ghost, Stadium, Robot or Telephone, or build a Custom preset — then download with the effect applied.
- Does it work on a phone?
- Yes — it runs in modern mobile browsers on iOS and Android as well as on desktop. Very long scripts on older, low-memory phones may run better on a laptop or desktop.
- Can I use the audio commercially?
- Yes — every voice we ship is cleared for commercial use, and we deliberately exclude non-commercial and research-only voices. English, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Hindi, Japanese and Chinese come from the Kokoro model (Apache-2.0). The other languages use Piper voices trained on openly licensed datasets (CC0, CC BY 4.0, CC BY-SA 3.0, Apache-2.0, M-AILABS). Some of those require you to credit the voice dataset when you publish — the exact line for each voice is in Voice credits below. Review the license for your specific use case.
