Why use SnipSound's converter

Free Online Audio & Video Converter

SnipSound's converter turns any audio or video file into the format you need, directly in your browser. Drop in an MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, AAC or M4A to convert between audio formats, or drop in an MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI or WMV to convert it to another video format, extract the audio as MP3, WAV or M4A, or turn it into a GIF. GIFs convert to MP4 or WebM. Choose your output and quality, and download the converted file. Files never leave your device, no signup, no watermark.

How It Works

For audio, the converter decodes your file with the Web Audio API and re-encodes it to the target format (MP3 via LAME, WAV as direct PCM, and OGG/FLAC/AAC/M4A via in-browser FFmpeg). For video, it runs in-browser FFmpeg: a single pass to pull out and encode the audio track, a remux or re-encode for video-to-video, and a two-pass palette pipeline for high-quality GIFs. The whole conversion happens locally — your file never leaves your computer.

Why Convert Files?

Common reasons: pulling an MP3 out of a recorded MP4 for a podcast, making a FLAC archive playable on phones as MP3 or AAC, converting voice memos from M4A to MP3 for platforms that reject M4A, or producing a lossless WAV master from a compressed source for editing. Browser-side conversion means no file-size limits from upload services.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert audio or video files online?
Drop any audio or video file onto the page. The converter detects what you dropped and shows the formats you can convert to. Pick one, choose quality if you like, and click Convert — the file downloads to your device.
Can I extract audio from a video?
Yes. Drop in an MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI or other video and choose MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, FLAC or AAC under “Extract audio” — the audio track is pulled out and converted in your browser.
Is my file uploaded?
No. All processing happens in your browser. See our privacy policy.
What about converting video to another video format, or to GIF?
Both work now. Drop in a video and choose MP4, WebM or MOV under “Video”, or GIF under “Animated” (pick a frame rate and size under GIF settings). You can also drop in a GIF and turn it into an MP4 or WebM video, or grab its first frame as a PNG.
